What is Rise of Nations?

Rise of Nations is a total conversion mod for Hearts of Iron IV that extends the timeline from 1910 to the modern day. It adds thousands of new events, focus trees, mechanics, and features that transform the vanilla HOI4 experience.

Is Rise of Nations free?

Yes, Rise of Nations is completely free. You only need to own a legitimate copy of Hearts of Iron IV to play it. The mod is available on the Steam Workshop and through our GitHub repository.

Who develops Rise of Nations?

Rise of Nations is developed by a team of volunteer modders who are passionate about history and Hearts of Iron IV. The project is led by Harry and includes dozens of developers, artists, writers, and testers. You can view our full team on the Credits page.

What start dates are available in Rise of Nations?

Rise of Nations features multiple start dates, including:

Rise of Nations features unique focus trees for over 60 countries, including all major powers and many minor nations. Some of the most developed focus trees include:

  • United Kingdom

How does the economy work in Rise of Nations?

Rise of Nations features a completely overhauled economic system that includes:

  • Additional resources like rare materials, consumer goods, and electronics
  • GDP and economic development metrics
  • Expanded trade mechanics
  • Debt, inflation, and currency systems
  • Stock markets and economic crises
  • Era-specific economic models (from industrial age to information age)

What are the system requirements for Rise of Nations?

Rise of Nations requires slightly higher specs than vanilla HOI4 due to its expanded content. We recommend:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit or newer / macOS 10.14 or newer / Linux
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K or AMD equivalent (quad core recommended)
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / AMD Radeon R7 270 or better
  • Storage: 5 GB available space
  • Hearts of Iron IV: Latest version

Is Rise of Nations compatible with other mods?

As a total conversion mod, Rise of Nations is generally not compatible with other major overhaul mods. However, it may work with some small graphical mods or UI tweaks. We officially support a few submods that are specifically designed for Rise of Nations, which you can find on our Steam Workshop page.

Why is my game crashing or having errors?

Here are some common troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure your HOI4 and Rise of Nations are both updated to the latest version
  2. Disable all other mods when playing Rise of Nations
  3. Clear your HOI4 cache folder (Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/cache)
  4. Delete and reinstall the mod
  5. Verify the integrity of your HOI4 game files through Steam
